How Much Does Divorce Mediation Cost?
My fee is $250.00 an hour and a typical divorce mediation takes between 5 and 10 hours from our first meeting until the completion of your separation agreement.
Time charged typically includes time in meetings, communicating by phone or writing, and writing the Separation (ie Divorce) Agreement. The total cost is between $1,250.00 and $2,500.00. The costs are usually split between both clients.
I do not ask for a retainer: you pay as you go, either by check or credit card. The remaining costs of a divorce are the $220 filing fee for a no-fault divorce, the approximately $60 charge you each pay for your parent education training class if you have a minor child, and whatever you pay your own legal, financial or other advisors if you choose to have one.
The cost of a mediated divorce can vary depending upon how much time you require for your case. A successful mediation can take 20+ hours if there are complicated issues, while on the other hand, I have mediated a few divorces in as little as 2 hours time.
